“Perfect for Interior Decor! Introducing the New ‘Kobai-an Confectionery’ Jigsaw Puzzle”

[History of the Design of Wrapping Paper]

This is the wrapping paper which Soejima Umetaro, the Founder of Kobai Confectionery Company, asked his teacher of fine arts of his senior high school to design.
The background image of this wrapping paper comes from the Edo Period and Soejima Umetaro is situated in the center. The scenic image of this store is vivid, lively and full of vigor, reflecting his strong wish to make his company continue to be prosperous for a long time. Thus, the wrapping paper, designed in this way, has been cherished and continuously used ever since its creation.

[Story of Kokin-Denju-no-Ma]

The Kokin-Denju-no-Ma (The Room for Bestowing the Anthology of Kokin-Waka-Shu) was originally constructed four hundred years ago inside the Kyoto-Gosho (Kyoto Imperial Palace). This is the historic place where The Shou-Nii (正二位) Hosokawa Yusai Fujitaka bestowed the Secret Teachings of Kokin Waka poems upon Prince Toshihito, Brother of Emperor Go-Youzei. Kokin-Denju means to convey the true interpretations of words and phrases used in Kokin-Waka poems exclusively to a nobleman of aristocracy. Traditionally inheritance had been limitedly inherited only to a certain nobleman of the Nijo Family after the first editor of the Anthology of Kokin-Waka-Shu, Fujiwara Sadaie. However, Hosokawa Yusai, although a soldier, was appointed to inherit the Secret Teachings of Kokin-Waka-Shu as he was a remarkably learned man at that time. In those days, it was thought to be of highest fame to be bestowed with the Secret Teachings of Kokin-Waka-Shu concerning the true way of composing the Japanese traditional short styled waka poems.
This architecture, being more than 400 years old, is an Important Cultural Property of Kumamoto Prefecture. It was scrapped and restored from 2009 and was completed in the autumn of 2010.

[Spending a Timeless Moment, Relaxing and Making Yourself at Home]

Kobai Confectionery Company has been credited by the Juridical Foundation called Eisei Bunko to maintain and take charge of the Room of Kokin-Denju since 1998. When we found ourselves entrusted with it, we could not help recognizing ourselves fulfilled and appreciating the beautiful landscape water garden of the go-round style of the ancient Artistic Style of the Momoyama Period. At this very moment we decided to accept the offer of entrustment, because the entire atmosphere of this construction and the beautiful landscape garden harmonized with our ethical principle of “Relaxing and Making Yourself at Home.” We will continue making further efforts to maintain this architecture from this time on, observing the traditional cultural property of Kumamoto.
We would like you to relax and make yourself at home, taking in the
view of the beautiful landscape garden and steeping yourself in the history of ancient days. Please have a splendid time of relaxing yourself with the powdered tea sweet of matcha and other Japanese-style confection when you drop in at our store.
